SEO & GEO

When AI describes your business, let it find the right source.

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the work done so that a business is recognized correctly in AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews and can be cited as a source. We structure your site so that these systems can understand and quote it, and make your business details consistent across every source.

  • Consistent business details
  • On site and online
In which situations?

When customers now ask an assistant the question, what appears in the answer matters.

People increasingly ask AI assistants about a service, a product or a company. GEO work becomes a priority in these situations.

01

The assistant never mentions you

If competitors are mentioned in questions about your sector and you are not, we examine your site's crawlability, content structure and how you are mentioned in external sources.

02

Wrong information is given

If an old address, a closed branch or wrong service information is being passed on, we find the source of that information and focus on spreading the correct information consistently.

03

Organic traffic is falling

Summary answers such as AI Overviews can reduce clicks. We measure which pages are affected and work to raise the chance of being included as a source in these answers.

04

Appearing in comparison questions

For questions such as "which company" or "which is more suitable", we prepare content that explains what your business does in a clear and verifiable way.

05

Being a knowledge source in your field of expertise

By offering clear definitions and reliable explanations for questions frequently asked in your sector, we build a knowledge base that answer engines can quote.

06

Local recommendation questions

In local questions such as "which agency in Sakarya", map data, reviews and consistent business details play a role together; we bring them into line.

Process

We measure first, then structure.

AI answers vary; so we look not at a single screenshot but at a regular, repeatable set of questions.

Scope

What we do and what we do not do.

GEO is a new field and many exaggerated promises circulate about it; we do only the work that has a basis.

Included

  • Scan of business and competitor visibility in answer engines
  • Checking robots.txt, crawler access and search engine registrations
  • Content structure built around clear definitions, direct answers and FAQs
  • Organization, LocalBusiness, Service and FAQ structured data
  • Consistency of business details across the site, profile and external sources
  • Identifying opportunities for mentions in industry sources and local publications
  • Answer tracking and reporting with a regular question set

What we don't do

  • We do not promise firm visibility or position in any AI answer
  • We do not use hidden text or steering commands aimed at manipulating answer engines
  • We do not produce fake forum comments, fake reviews or purchased mentions
  • We do not claim to have a special connection with AI companies
  • We do not recommend shortcuts that skip the classic SEO foundation
Beware of "guaranteed visibility in ChatGPT" promises

Answer engines choose their sources for each question according to their own systems and may give a different answer to the same question at different times. A service that sells firm visibility in these systems is promising something it cannot actually control.

Guide

What is GEO and how do you become a source in AI answers?

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the work done so that a business or website is recognized correctly, described correctly and can be cited as a source in generative AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. It does not replace classic SEO; it is built on top of it and focuses on making content understandable and quotable by machines.

How do answer engines choose their sources?

AI assistants can answer a question in two ways: with general knowledge they learned during training, or by searching the web at the moment of the question and summarizing the pages they find. The second path is the one that matters for GEO. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode rely on Google's own search index; Copilot relies largely on the Bing index. ChatGPT's search feature and Perplexity use different search sources alongside their own crawlers. The common point is this: for a page to be cited as a source, it must first be crawlable and in the index, and then contain a clear, reliable and easily parsed answer to the question asked. Which source is chosen is always decided by the answer engine itself.

The basic building blocks of GEO

  1. Clear definitions: Every important page should clearly define its subject in the first paragraph in two or three sentences. Answer engines are more inclined to quote such short, self-contained sentences.
  2. Direct answers to questions: Subheadings should contain real questions and the first sentences of paragraphs the direct answers. FAQ sections are very valuable in this respect.
  3. Structured data: schema.org markup such as Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, Product, Article and FAQPage expresses what the page is about in a language machines understand. This markup does not provide visibility on its own but helps the content be interpreted correctly.
  4. Consistent business details: Business name, address, phone, services and opening hours should be the same on the website, Google Business Profile, map apps, social media and directories. Contradictory information leads AI to give wrong or unclear answers.
  5. Mentions in authoritative sources: Answer engines recognize a business not only from its own site but also from industry publications, local news sites, professional bodies, reliable directories and genuine user reviews. It is essential that these mentions are real and earned.
  6. Freshness: Pages that carry dates and are updated regularly may be preferred, especially on changeable subjects.

For a local business, an authoritative source does not always mean a big national publication. The regional chamber of commerce and industry listing, member lists of trade associations, a real news item in local news sites, reference pages on the sites of institutions you work with and genuine customer reviews on the Google Business Profile are sources that help answer engines recognize the business. Writing the business name and core details the same way in each of these mentions makes it easier to see that different sources describe the same business.

Technical access: keeping the door open to crawlers

Many sites unknowingly block AI crawlers because of security plugins or server settings. For example, the crawler OpenAI uses for search and the one it uses for model training work under separate names and can be allowed separately through robots.txt. On Google's side, the Google-Extended setting affects Gemini model training and does not determine visibility in Google Search and AI Overviews. Knowing these distinctions lets a business respect its preference on training data while keeping its search visibility. Also, because Copilot and some assistants are fed by Bing data, registration with Bing Webmaster Tools should not be neglected.

The relationship between GEO and SEO, and what to avoid

Google states clearly that no separate optimization is needed to appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode and that basic SEO principles apply. For this reason GEO is of no use without a solid SEO foundation. The difference is a slight shift of focus: in classic SEO the aim is for the page to be clicked, while in GEO the aim is for the information on the page to be used correctly inside the answer and linked as a source. AI summaries can reduce the number of clicks in some searches; but visitors who come from pages shown as a source are usually more informed and closer to a decision.

Some practices that promise shortcuts in this area should be avoided:

  • Adding hidden instructions aimed at AI to a page that the user cannot see.
  • Recommending yourself with fake accounts on forums and review sites.
  • Producing pages written for a single answer engine that make no sense to a human reader.
  • Trusting services that promise "guaranteed visibility" in any AI tool.

Although these methods may seem to work in the short term, they both go against the spam policies of search engines and put the business's reputation at risk.

How are results measured?

AI answers vary by person, time and the wording of the question. So a single attempt is not meaningful. We run a fixed question set defined for your business in different answer engines at regular intervals and record the mentions, correct information and citations. To this are added search data in Search Console and visits from AI sources in Analytics.

On-site and online work

With businesses in Sakarya and around, we can do the first scan together on site. With our customers across Turkey the process runs entirely online. We access the site and accounts not with passwords but through authorization. In the baseline report we clearly list which questions you are mentioned in, which information is passed on wrongly, which sources help competitors stand out and which pages need fixing first.

Note: GEO is a fast-developing field. Because the way answer engines work changes often, we keep our methods up to date with the platforms' official statements.

What is GEO?
GEO is the work done so that a business is recognized correctly in AI answer engines such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews and can be cited as a source. Clear definitions, structured data, consistent business details and mentions in reliable sources are the foundation of this work.
Can you guarantee that my business is recommended in ChatGPT?
No. The answer engine itself decides which business is mentioned and which source is shown; the same question can also get different answers at different times. We prepare the ground needed for your business to be understood correctly by these systems and to be chosen as a source.
Does GEO replace SEO?
No, it is built on top of it. Most answer engines draw on web search indexes; a page that cannot be crawled or is not in the index is hard to cite as a source. So a solid SEO foundation is a prerequisite for GEO.
Do I need to do anything special to appear in Google AI Overviews?
Google states that no separate optimization is needed for AI Overviews and that basic SEO principles apply. The page being in the index, answering the question clearly and being reliable are the leading factors.
Should I add an llms.txt file?
Adding one does no harm, but today it is not a widely accepted standard, and major search engines have not stated that they rely on this file for visibility. The priority should always be a crawlable site, clear content and correctly structured data.
What can I do if AI gives wrong information about my business?
First you need to find which source the wrong information comes from; often an old directory entry or an outdated profile is responsible. Making the correct information consistent on your site, in the Google Business Profile and in other sources helps you get more accurate answers over time.
