Who is it for?

For anyone whose account is valuable.

Whatever the follower count, if the account means income, communication or memories, preventive security is worth the effort.

01

Those who sell on Instagram

For businesses that receive orders and customer messages by DM, even a few days of lost access is a serious disruption.

02

Accounts managed by a team

If employees, agencies or freelancers access the account, you need to move to role-based authorization instead of sharing passwords.

03

After recovery

For users who have just got their account back, cleaning up the traces the attacker left and preventing a repeat is the priority.

04

Those who receive phishing messages

If you receive messages about "copyright violation", "blue tick" or "your account will be closed", your account may be a target.

05

Those whose number or email changed

If the registered phone number has been cancelled or the email is no longer used, your recovery details are out of date.

06

Public figures

For people and brands with name recognition, the risk of impersonation accounts and targeted attacks is higher.

Scope

What we do and what we do not.

Security setup is meant to keep the account under your control; that is why the keys always stay with you.

Included

  • Checking the account, email and recovery details
  • Setting up two-factor authentication with an authenticator app
  • Creating backup codes and a storage plan
  • Cleaning up open sessions and recognized devices
  • Reviewing third-party app permissions
  • Role-based team access in Meta Business Portfolio
  • Briefing on recognizing phishing messages
  • A written security and emergency checklist

What we don't do

  • We do not ask for or store your passwords, codes or backup codes
  • We do not guarantee that the account will never be hijacked
  • We do not claim to provide special protection or privileges on Meta's side
  • We do not recommend unofficial security apps or plug-ins
  • We do not change settings on accounts that are not yours
Messages arriving under the pretext of security

Messages that claim to be from Instagram and ask for a code or password to "protect" your account are phishing. Meta does not ask you to share your verification code with anyone.

Guide

How to set up two-factor authentication and account security on Instagram?

The account security and two-factor authentication service is a preventive consulting service in which we configure, together with you and on your device, the password, email, verification method, backup codes and access permissions to reduce the risk of your Instagram and linked Meta accounts being hijacked. You make the settings; we explain what you choose and why, and prepare a checklist you keep.

Why security before recovery?

Recovering a hijacked account can take days, and nobody can guarantee the outcome. Yet a significant share of hijackings can be made harder with simple measures: not using the same password in more than one place, protecting the registered email and having two-factor authentication turned on. Preventive security is a much shorter and more predictable job than a recovery process.

Preventive security is not only for large accounts. Attackers often target accounts that are easy to take over, not those with many followers; a small hijacked account can also be used to defraud its circle. For this reason, personal accounts deserve protection just as much as business accounts.

The difference between two-factor authentication methods

In addition to the password, Instagram asks for a second confirmation at login. This confirmation can be obtained in different ways:

  • Authenticator app: Codes are generated in an app on your phone. It is the method we generally recommend, because it is not affected by risks such as number porting or SIM changes.
  • SMS or messaging app: Easy to set up, but it depends on the security of your phone number.
  • Login approval: You approve a new login from a device you have logged in on before; it should be used together with other methods, not on its own.

Which options appear may vary by your account and app version. Defining more than one method together lets you continue with another if you lose access to one. It is also a good habit to verify during setup, with a test login, that the methods really work.

Backup codes and recovery details

Backup codes are the way to get back into your account when you lose your phone. Instead of leaving these codes as a screenshot in your gallery, we recommend keeping them offline in a safe place. Keeping your registered email address and phone number up to date is just as important as the verification itself; an unused email is a closed door during recovery. If you need to share backup codes with a trusted family member or colleague, it is safer to do so with a printed copy rather than through a messaging app.

Choosing a password is as important as the recovery details. A long, hard-to-guess password used only on this account makes it useless to try, on Instagram, details leaked from another site. Because it is hard to remember many passwords, using a trusted password manager is a practical solution. The email account linked to the account should also have its own strong password and two-factor authentication, because whoever takes over the email also reaches the password reset links.

When you change your phone number or stop using an old email address, you need to update the recovery details on the account the same day. This small detail prevents the code from going, when you later have an access problem, to a number or address that is no longer under your control. During setup we check these details one by one and complete any that are missing together with you.

Team access in businesses

On accounts where several people log in with the same password, it is impossible to track who did what, and a weakness on one person's device puts the whole account at risk. Instead, each employee and agency should be given only the role they need, through Meta Business Portfolio. The access of people who leave should be removed the same day, and there should be at least two trusted administrators on the account. When building this structure, we work with authorization instead of password sharing. Removing access when cooperation with an agency or freelancer ends is often forgotten; reviewing the permission list a few times a year is the simplest way to see who still has access.

Recognizing phishing messages

Most attacks start with a message. The signs to watch for are:

  1. Urgent language saying your account will be closed within a few hours.
  2. Links sent under the pretext of copyright violation, a blue tick or a prize.
  3. Any request for your login details or for the code that was sent to you.
  4. Requests for help that come from a familiar account but are written in an unusual way.

You can verify a message you suspect, without clicking the link, by checking the official emails from Instagram in the security section within the app. If you clicked a link and entered your details, change your password without delay, log out of open sessions and check that two-factor authentication still works with your method. Phishing attempts noticed early can often be stopped before the account is lost.

Online and on-site setup

When doing the security setup online, we follow each step together through screen sharing or video call. We also provide on-site support in Sakarya and the surrounding area; we sit side by side at your phone or computer and complete the settings step by step with you. In both methods, only you see the passwords and codes.

At the end of the setup we leave you a short checklist: where the backup codes are kept, at what intervals sessions will be checked, which steps to follow when a new employee joins or leaves, and what to do first in a suspicious situation. This list lets you build a regular habit instead of making the settings once and forgetting them.

Note: The names and locations of the security menus in Instagram and Accounts Center change from time to time. We carry out the setup according to the current screens that day.

How do I turn on two-factor authentication on Instagram?
It is turned on by choosing two-factor authentication in the password and security section of Accounts Center and selecting a method. We generally recommend an authenticator app. Because menu names can change, we do the setup together on your current screen.
Which is more secure, SMS or an authenticator app?
An authenticator app is generally more secure, because the codes are tied to your device rather than your phone number. SMS is still far better than no verification at all and can remain as a backup method.
How do I get into my account if I lose my phone?
You can get in with the backup codes you received during setup. That is why it is important to keep the backup codes in a safe place, independent of your device.
How should our agency or employees access the account?
Instead of sharing a password, each person should be given the role they need through Meta Business Portfolio. That way access can be granted and withdrawn per person, and who did what can be tracked.
Does a security setup mean the account will never be stolen?
No. It reduces the risk significantly, but no setting gives a guarantee of full protection. Being careful with phishing messages is an integral part of the setup.
Do I need to give my account password for the setup?
No. You make the settings on your own device; online or on site, we follow the screens alongside you.
